Piotr Zielinski admitted Inter players would be “sorry” to see Denzel Dumfries leave, and insisted Robert Lewandowski would “adapt easily” to Serie A.

Inter’s Polish midfielder Zielinski spoke to Sportmediaset while on international duty.

Zielinski says it’s a shame that Dumfries is leaving Inter

The big news for the black and blue of the San Siro is that Dutch wing-back Dumfries will join Real Madrid in a deal worth 20 million euros.

Merengues are set to trigger a €20 million release clause and Fabrizio Romano says Dumfries have already undergone medical tests with the Ligue 1 giants.

“Dumfries is a great player who made history at Inter so we will be disappointed,” Zielinski said.

“Therefore, we are sorry but we cannot refuse a specific offer. If he joins Real Madrid, we can only congratulate him and wish him the best.”

Atalanta owner Marco Palestra is Inter’s main candidate to replace Dumfries.

“I don’t know if Palestra will arrive or not. I don’t deal with these things. He’s strong, but we’ll have to see if he arrives,” Zielinski said.

Zielinski’s compatriot Lewandowski’s contract with Barcelona is due to expire at the end of this month, and his agent has already met with Juventus and Milan.

Would Zielinski encourage his compatriots to move to Italy?

“For sure, he is a champion. He will fit easily into our league,” replied the Inter midfielder.

Inter won Serie A and the Coppa Italia in Cristian Chivu’s first season as manager at the San Siro, with Zielinski playing a key role for the Nerazzurri.

Therefore, the Polish national team player is not considering leaving the club this summer.

“I think so. I want to stay because it’s a big team and I think we can always grow and do more,” he said.

“We have a good depth of players. I’m sure the guys in charge of the market will do something and build a competitive team. I can’t wait to get some rest and start preseason again.”

“We have to improve in the Champions League. We are a strong team so we will definitely improve,” he concluded.

“As I said before, maybe there could have been some reinforcements, but the team was already strong and competitive and it didn’t go the way we wanted.”
