Inter Milan has not yet made the race as Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Spurs target Jonathan David has yet to determine his future.
This is according to Italian outlet fcinternews. They report that Nerazzuri is waiting for an attack and see if Canada will lower his wage demands.
Reel striker Jonathan David was certainly on Inter Milan’s radar for a while.
The 25-year-old confirmed that he would leave Reel for a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expired.
And Inter is certainly a club that prefers free transfers for big names.
Therefore, Nerazzurri has already courted David last year or so. This included a visit to Sansilo by agents from International Canada.
But towards the end of 2024, it seemed to have cooled interest in Inter’s signing David significantly.
There are several reasons for this.
First of all, Jonathan David has been reportedly wanted to join the club where he will become his first choice starter. Given the presence of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, it would be difficult for Intel to guarantee this in Canada.
Then comes David’s request for personal terms.
Meanwhile, Inter is ready to invest in signatures that will attack next summer. There’s room for the budget when they offload the wages of Marco Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa.
However, David reportedly clarified his demands from a net net of 6-7 million euros per season and wages, a sign-on bonus of 10 million euros.
Inter from the race for Newcastle, Villa & Spurs
These factors have led Inter to not yet make a critical move to sign Jonathan David.
But that doesn’t mean that Nerazzuri has lost interest in Canada’s signature entirely.
on the contrary. According to FCIN, Inter is patiently waiting to see how David’s situation develops.
Canada itself has not hidden that his preference will be a move to Barcelona.
However, Robert Lewandowski is still outstanding until his 30s, so it may be difficult to convince Blaugrana to sign him. Especially on their well-known financial issues.
Meanwhile, there have been several offers from the Premier League. According to FCIN, things like Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are all eager to sign David.
However, the outlet notes that David is not actually warming up to the idea of joining these English clubs.
Therefore, Canada International has not yet decided on his future.
And this keeps Inter’s interest in signing David.
Nerazzurri hopes that if the 25-year-old goes far longer without receiving an offer from the club he wants to participate in, he can lower his demands.
And in that case, Inter may feel that it is the right moment to attack.
This is similar to the strategy adopted by Inter in 2023 to sign Marcus Thuram.
Another way is to sign a striker like Santiago Castro in Bologna. Castro will charge 305 million euros, but will demand a rather low wage.
