Claudio Ranieri claims that Lazio is “living strong” at Derby della Capital on Sunday, claiming that Rome’s future will depend on “ownership and new coaches.”
Girorossi will meet Lazio on Sunday at the important Derby della Capital. Raneiri previewed the game at a pre-match press conference on Friday, as usual two days before kickoff.
“Everyone can use it,” the Roman boss said through TMW.
“We expect Lazio, everyone knows. Live strong with good players and collective style play. I’ve seen their final game. And when you go to a place on that pitch with such a cold, you suffer because you’re not used to it.
Lazio returned to the capital early on Friday morning after losing 2-0 to Bodeau/Grimt in the first game of the Europa League quarterfinals on Thursday night. Does this mean that Rome is a favorite against their city rivals?
“We also made this kind of trip and went home at 3 or 4am, but didn’t say anything,” Ranieri insisted.
“I haven’t seen Lazio struggle, otherwise you wouldn’t go to Bergamo and play like them.
“After I arrived, I have always set up a team that I was trying to win, and I will do the same the day after tomorrow,” the Rome coach continued.

“That doesn’t mean we win, but that means we fight the way we fought Juventus. We were good at playing the way we wanted. That’s true. Then we grew up in the game and managed to score. I don’t make a promise, but I want to work.”
Lorenzo Pellegrini was surprisingly inspired by starting his first leg derby in January and winning an early opening game. Does Ranieri see the same spark in the Italian midfielder?
“If you tell you he has that spark, you’ll put him (probably) to start xi,” Ranieri replied.
“So I’ll stay quiet and make my decision.”
Patrick Vieira was the latest candidate to be mentioned by Italian media as an alternative to Ranieri in 2025-26.
“I’m not going to talk about it, I’ve already said it,” commented Ranieri.
Italian tacticians will leave Rome at the end of the season and contribute to finding the ideal alternative.
“Like I said when I arrived, Rome was not built in one day. It’s an English proverb,” he said.
“It’s certainly not a century to bring Rome back to the Champions League. We’re doing our best to get closer, and then we’ll rely on ownership and new coaches to build our presidential dreams.
“Given the difficulties with the January transfer period, we made some good choices between UEFA restrictions and the need to sign a particular player. I believe they deserve Roma. Of course I think we can improve everything.
