The six teams still have a mathematical chance to win the final Champions League spot in Serie A, but there is a scenario that will lead to Juventus taking fourth place in the rankings this weekend. This is what you need.

There are four Italian teams competing in the Champions League from 2025 to 2026. Naples, Inter and Atalanta have already booked their locations. Inter and Napoli are guaranteed to finish in the top two seasons, with Atalanta guaranteed to finish third in the last two matches regardless of the outcome.

Juventus (4th, 64 points), Lazio (5th, 64 points), Rome (5th, 63 points), Bologna (6th, 62 points), Milan (8th, 60 points), and Fiorentina (9th, 59 points) all get mathematical chances to finish in the top four.

Juventus is the only team that could potentially take fourth place this weekend in the penultimate round of the Serie A fixture.

For that to happen, Juventus will need to defeat Udinese, and Lazio, Rome and Bologna all need to lose. If any of these three teams draw or win this weekend, the Champions League race will be the final day of the season.

This weekend’s schedule will see Juventus facing Udinese, Lazio against Inter, Roma hosting Milan at the Studio Olimpico, and Bologna against Fiorentina. All of these games begin on Sunday at 19.45 BST.

Why Juventus alone can finish fourth in Serie A this weekend

It is important to remember that teams finishing Serie A season levels at points will be separated face-to-face as the first determinant, then as the difference in head-to-head match goals and overall goals. (The only exception to this rule is when the first and second teams, or the 17th and 18th teams on points, are at finish levels. That would lead to a playoff to determine the title or final relegation spot.)

If Juventus loses Udinese and Lazio, Rome and Bologna, Bianconoli has a four-point advantage over Rome and Bologna and plays one game.

Bianconeri will only be exempt from Lazio in this scenario, but Juventus will head over to Biancocelesti after a 1-0 victory in October and a 1-1 draw last weekend.

If Lazio or Rome wins this weekend, or if Bologna wins, there will be multiple teams within three points from fourth place heading into the final weekend, regardless of Juventus’ outcome against Udinese.
