Inter’s Piero Asilio reveals the transfers he is most proud of, including Andre Onana Andre Onana to Manchester United, his regrets for Kvicha Kvaratzkeria, and whether he was “told” for the loss of Ardon Jashari in Milan.

His career began as a player’s career until a catastrophic knee injury in a random collision with Carlo Cadicini changed his path forever.

Speaking to La Gazzetta delo Sport, he claims that it was for greater profits, as he had far more success than he did in this role as a wing back.

Currently 50 years old, he has been with Inter in a variety of roles, including more than a decade as a sports director since 1998.

“The relocations I’m most proud of are Mateo Kovacic and Marcelo Brozovic, which I chose when Marco Blanca was working with us,” Ausilio told La Gazzetta delo Sports.

“Plus Onana was signed for free and then sold for 55 million euros a year later. Of course, Lautaro Martinez, Jan Bisek, Marcus Salam…”

There were also some regrets along Asilio’s path, including the players who made his mark in Naples and Paris Saint-Germain.

“Kvaratskhelia was offered to many big clubs in Italy, so that wasn’t just my mistake. The problem was that I played on a 3-5-2 system and was good for 4-3-3 so we didn’t go for it. I’m used to building a team that respects the ideas of the coaches.”

Ausilio also has recent regrets that happened a few days ago. Because rumors of interest in Club Bruges’ midfielders seem to actually have a foundation before they come to rivals.

“My son Nicolo studied the players, watched a thousand matches and when Jashari signed Milan, he told me. He advised him to take him when he was still in Lucerne, and we let him get away, but we said we can’t buy all the talented players out there.”

Being a sports director means evaluating players who are off it, not just on the pitch, which can cause some issues.

“During the January transfer period, I was selling players overseas, but at the time we were struggling to pay wages on time, so we were in a financially safe position,” Ausilio revealed.

“When we got a call from a very well-known divorce lawyer, we were about to sign a contract, and he warned us that we could not sell because the player’s wife had filed for divorce and asked him to confiscate his passport.

“I was desperate. How did I solve this? I locked myself in the room until they sorted out both the divorce agreement and the player’s sale. I don’t know if that was the most difficult transfer negotiation I’d ever had, but it was probably the most important thing.”
