Genoa will face Atalanta in the 16th Coppa Italia round.
This was a family affair as the Valentin and Franco Carboni brothers faced down the first XI side. Patrick Vieira’s Grifone scored just two points from the four Serie A rounds, beating Vicenza 3-0 in the opening Coppa Italia round. Empoli wasn’t that good, so he needed a penalty to strip out one point from the last three of Serie B and eliminate Ledgiana in the cup.
It was the visitors who broke the deadlock early as a furious free kick from Edoardo Saporiti rounded the walls of defense and surprised Nicola Riali at a nearby post. Strangely enough, Sapoliti is from Genoa.

That didn’t last long as Morten Friendlap blew an offside trap into the Smart Lorenzo Colombo Pass and was excavated low at a nearby corner.
This was a very open match, with Brando Moruzzi testing Genoa’s goalkeeper and Albert Gronbaek’s free kick standing upright.

The host looked back on it after the restart when substitute Lorenzo Venturino flicked Nicolae Stanciu Cross to the corner and Alessandro Marcandalli was able to get the final touch from three yards.
Grifone locked down the results with Jeff Ekhator, ready to meet Morten Thorsby’s knockdown from close range after Stanciu’s first save.
Genoa 3-1 Emporio
Saporiti 12 (e), Frendrup 15 (g), Marcandalli 56 (g), Ekhator 83 (g)
