After taking the Brazilian job, Carlo Ancelotti called interdefenders Carlos Augusto and Atalanta’s Edason after saying, “It’s a great honor to lead the best national team in the world.”
He was presented to the media this evening at a massive press conference to announce the first teams in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.
World Cup-winning coach Luis Felipe Scolari presented Ancelotti with his own Brazilian jersey.
Ancelotti was welcomed to Brazil as New Hope
“My first impression is that leading the best national team in the world is a great honor,” Ancelotti said in Spanish.
“I realized that Brazil wants to be champions again. I have had a lot of love. I know we do very well. I’m grateful to CBF for taking me here.
He introduced his management staff for his work in Brazil, including former Palma goalkeeper Claudio Taffarel.
“My connection to Brazil goes back a lot to my teammates like Falcao and Tonino Serezo,” explained Ancelotti.
“I also coached the latest Brazilian players like Ronaldo, Ribaldo, Ronaldinho, Pat, Kaka, Dargras Costa, Marcelo, Cuff, Dida, Roke Junior, Emerson and Marcio Amoroso, real Madrid, like Militau, Endric.
“So this connection with Brazil started very early in my career, but this is the first time I’ve been to Rio de Janeiro.”
Ancelotti is turning to Serie A for the Brazilian team
During the presentation, there were video messages from former players, coaches and fans.
“Going to the World Cup is not just the purpose of the 23 players, but the whole country. Everyone in Brazil cheers on the team, and that’s something we need to remember.”
Instead of releasing it in written form, he read out his first team of tenure while sitting at his desk.
Strangely enough, this included defender Carlos Augusto, who only received two caps in 2023.
Atalanta midfielder Adason is also in the group, and was added late to the latest team only due to injuries elsewhere.
No one in Ancelotti has won more World Cup trophies than Brazil or Italy, but neither of them have won tournaments in decades.
“There are times and generations in soccer. These can affect the outcome. I think Italy and Brazil will be competitive again next year,” the coach said.
“Italia worked really hard and Brazil was always at a high level. For example, Brazil was probably the best team in 1982, but Italy won because they needed to combine talent and sacrifice spirit with a spirit of effort to succeed.”
The tactician will turn 66 next month and today will begin the latest chapter of his extraordinary career as coach of the Brazilian National Corps.
This was his first international role as head coach after his club roles at Ledgiana, Palma, Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid (twice), Bayern Munich, Napoli and Everton.
Ancelotti is the only man in history to win all five European Big Five League titles, with five editions of the Champions League (two in Milan and three in Real Madrid).
His first job as a coach was as an assistant manager of Arrigo Sacchi on the Italian side from 1992 to 1995.
