Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has given his verdict on the club’s decision to appoint Cristian Chivu as their new manager in June.

In an interview with Inter.it, the Nerazzurri president expressed his gratitude in particular to former coach Simone Inzaghi.

The 49-year-old manager left San Siro at the end of last season, severing ties with the club after four memorable years.

Although he failed to win any trophies in his final season in Italy, Simone Inzaghi laid the foundations for his future.

He also led Inter Milan to a memorable 20th Serie A title.

It goes without saying that he led the Nerazzurri to two Champions League finals in three years.

He therefore set the bar high for his successors.

Cristian Chivu returns to Inter as an inexperienced manager, but he has already made a strong impression.

Indeed, the 44-year-old has won praise for his tactical awareness and ability to work with the team.

First, Marotta expressed his gratitude for Inzaghi’s contribution to the Nerazzurri cause.

“The season we just finished was intense and emotional,” Marotta admitted.

“Our first team showed pride, character and sacrifice, achieving good results in all competitions, including second place in Serie A, the Champions League final, the Coppa Italia semi-final and the Supercoppa Italiana final.

“These results are a testament to the quality of our team and the competitiveness that sets us apart.

“The lack of trophies must be a driving force for all of us to work with greater determination and humility and soon be able to bring new moments of joy to our fans.

“To conclude last season, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Simone Inzaghi, who has left an indelible mark on the history of the club.”

He praised Inter’s decision to use Chivu instead of Inzaghi.

“A few months ago, we enthusiastically welcomed Cristian Chivu as our new first-team coach,” Marotta continued.

“This is a forward-looking choice and is consistent with our focus on innovation, strengthening young talent, and continuing our strategic process to rejuvenate our team.

“I am confident that Christian will lead the team with passion and expertise.

“From what we have already seen at the beginning of this season, it is clear that we have made a great choice.

“The men’s first team is improving with each match. We have won three consecutive games in the last three league games.

“We also started our Champions League campaign with maximum points after two games.

“These results confirm the strength and competitiveness of the club. This gives us further confidence for the remainder of the season.”
