Milan's motivation doesn't come from ruining inter's high pitched dreams

EPA12012425 AC Milan head coach Sergio Concicao will respond to the Italian Serie of AC Milan and Fiorentina’s soccer match at Giuseppe Miassa Stadium in Milan, Italy on April 5, 2025.

Sergio Conceiçao argues that Milan’s motivation will only discuss Rossoneri’s journey at the end of the season, not because it ruins the possible high notes of Inter.

Milan will meet his city rivals on Wednesday in the second round of Coppa Italia’s semi-finals.

Rossonelli is sitting ninth in the Serie A table and can focus entirely on tomorrow’s fixtures, as it is virtually impossible to reach the Champions League spot. Conceiçao began his pre-game press conference on Tuesday by talking about the late Pope Francis.

“He was at the top of the Catholic Church. I go to Mass every day in downtown Milan at 6:30pm,” he said in Milanese.

“He was an extraordinary guy. I miss his words and his presence.” Conceiçao said Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kyle Walker are not the best, but will be available tomorrow after completing a full training session with today’s team.

“The big clubs aim to go all the way through at every competition. Congratulations to Inter on their journey in the Champions League and Serie A,” continued Conceiçao.

“For us, this match is fundamental. We want to give this trophy to our fans. We need extraordinary performance and we’re more competitive. Every game is different.”

While Inter is still running for the treble, Conceiçao claimed that Milan’s motivations don’t come from running the dreams of city rivals.

“Our motivation comes not from the other person, but from our own work,” he said.

“That kind of thing won’t get into the locker room. The Inter is involved in many competitions, but they’re just as used to it as we do. Players have recovered quickly these days. We’ve seen the game with Bologna.

Rossonelli has been undefeated in the last three matches against this season, but has lost his recent match against Serie A Atalanta.

“We trained well during the weeks leading up to Atalanta games,” Conceiçao said.

“I had a good feeling before Udinese, but when I got to the game I had to wait until the break to fix things. We played against a quality team and it was a balanced game.

“After Atalanta didn’t pass midfield in the first 15 minutes after the break, he recognized the goal from a collective error and the players introduced from the bench didn’t bring enough to the team. We talked about it. Tomorrow’s game is the most important and players don’t know that.”

Will Milan be sticking to the three-man defense against Nerazzuri tomorrow?

“We’ve always added a fifth element to our defense, sometimes musas, sometimes Jimenez,” Conceiçao said.

“It depends on what we want from the game and what our opponent does. We need to exploit their weaknesses and be aware of their strengths. They are a team with a lot of energy and quality on the ball, but we did great things on the offense. We are defensively, we are lacking in some areas and we need to build again from the foundation.”

Why did Santiago Guimenez become the third choice option for attacks?

“There’s no first, no second, no third. It’s about the player’s form. He went in and scored immediately, scored,” explained Conceiçao.

“Then he was injured for a few weeks. I make decisions, but there’s no set hierarchy. Sometimes the people who come later are more critical.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a favorite or not. When the judge blows the mouth whi, it’s all about what we prepared and motivation. That’s what makes the difference. We’re good quality too.”

Finally, Conceiçao was asked about his emotions coming into the game and how he judges the Milan campaign.

“At the end of the season, I will talk about what the past six months have been like.
