Fabio Capello believes Milan is gambling by signing Victor Boniface from Bayer Levalksen, not Manchester United’s Rasmus Hoilund, despite being “technically talented.”

Milan has a contract with Bayer Leberkusen and is hoping to welcome Boniface into the city on Friday for medical care. If a transaction occurs, Rossoneri will have the option to pay a loan fee of 5 million euros and buy it for an additional 24 million euros.

However, several Italian outlets believe Boniface’s injuries record is the cause of Milan’s concern. Nigeria International has spent long periods on the sidelines in each of the past two seasons with Lebakusen, suffering two cruciate ligaments (ACL) injuries during his time at Bodo/Grimt.

Additionally, Boniface is expected to be unavailable for several weeks midway through AFCON season. This will limit Massimiliano Allegri options in advance in December and January.

Capello: Boniface “he’s technically talented, but he stopped frequently due to injuries.”

Written in the Lagazzetta delo Sports column, Capello believes this will be a slightly dangerous signature for Milan.

Capello also uses Naples as a comparison to show how Milan should operate in searches for new strikers.

“Conte was placed in a position to fight for the title: targeted signatures and an all-new spine. Guarantees at the centre-forward, from Buongiorno to McTominai to Lukaku,” writes Capelo.

“Milan should do the same with Allegri, but the new centre-forward move went down a different route, because after a lengthy negotiation with Hoszilund, Rossonelli turned to Boniface and gambling with a technically talented striker, but frequently stopped due to physical issues.

“And also, Nigerians will come from Bayer Lebakusen, but it will take some time to settle for Serie A, but Manchester United’s Dane would have been a quick striker given his experience in Atalanta.”

Capello: “Could Milan invest more in centre forward?”

Capello went on to explain that he was disappointed to learn that Milan had turned to Boniface mainly for economic reasons.

“When I read that the reason behind this choice is primarily due to economic reasons, I wonder: Shouldn’t clubs like Milan, which are close to 200 million euros from this window, be invested in centre forwards? Who has to score a goal for Scudetto.

“Trying to wager on such a critical position is dangerous, especially since we are certain Leao’s move to centre-forward is short-lived. Allegri will lose the devastating Portuguese quality when he starts big on the left.”
