EPA12092721 Napoli head coach Antonio Conte will be playing Italian Serie A soccer match SSC Napoli vs CF Genoa on May 11, 2025 at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Napoli.
Napoli traveled to Sassoro on Saturday afternoon for the opening game of the 2025-26 Serie A season, with Antonio Conte’s side wanting to defend the Scadet title.
Speaking to the press prior to tomorrow’s match, Conte discussed several topics, including the injury suffered by Romell Lukaku as Napoli’s favorite, and the club’s summer transfer market.
A quote, photographed via Corriere Dello Sport, led Conte to begin the meeting by discussing Lukaku’s injuries. “It’s a serious injury for players that are particularly important to the team, and we know that these situations can occur throughout the year.
“Last year, we showed that young people can handle anything. We shouldn’t complain, but we should not find a solution instead. I didn’t talk about it because injuries are part of the game. Now we need to work to make our players shine.”

Conte talks about team news and tactics
Conte’s Napoli won the Scudetto last season, narrowly piping Inter to the title on the final day of the season. Much of Naples’ side remains the same, with no Star Player sale except for Victor Osimhen, who was not involved with the team during the 2024-25 campaign.
Speaking about his team, Conte said, “This group doesn’t have to repeat the work they did last year. We talk about the managers who want to work hard every day. What I emphasize is historical. Napoli has never won two consecutive scudettis, so remember that Napoli finished 10th in the season. And our job is not only to be used to winning, but to open up a new perspective for many teams.”
Conte also said, “We have to inevitably do our job and find a solution. We know well enough that 4-3-3 is the right formation for this team. We also made some signatures that are suitable for this formation. Good.”

Conte on Napollisk Det’s Defense and Expectations
Conte has made it clear that his Naples side is determined to make history again, celebrating his role as champion.
“Last year, we won by doing great things. Speaking of suffering, I will retire even when we win. We won and we can’t separate the two. When we win, when we win, we can’t oppose us. True Neapolitan support is always against the team.
“I’m not for the grand speech, I’m for the essence. I have to keep bowing my head. Otherwise, the risk of the outcome is the same as two years ago. The only accused were coaches, players, and presidents. They need to apply a positive rather than a positive.
