Marseille head coach Gennaro Gatuso is watching during a warm-up before the first leg football match of the UEFA Europa League Group B between Olympic des Marseille (OM) and Brighton and Hove Albion on October 5, 2023.
Gennaro Gattuso said at his first press conference that as Italian coach, the player who was called should remain in Caucciano, with minor injuries, even though he took a different approach to his predecessor Luciano Spalletti.
Gatuso was announced at a press conference in Rome on Thursday. Even if he admitted he had no time to make “big changes,” he has already announced a switch from his predecessor, Spalletti.
Gattuso said the first request to Italian delegation chief Gigi Buffon and Figc’s President Gabriele Gravina is to keep players at the Italian training centre at Coverciano in Florence during an international break, even if injured.
The new Italian boss claimed that the national team had the right staff to monitor and treat players with minor injuries, so if called, they should remain on the national team.
Gatuso’s first Italian change

“The first thing I asked the president was that anyone who comes to Caucciano must stay, even if there are minor issues,” Gatuso said.
“We have everything in place to treat them. It’s reliable and to avoid excuses. If the player is called, he will stay in CoverCiano just like when I played. If they can’t make them healthy, they can go back to the club.
Spalletti Various approaches

Spalletti took a completely different approach, sending people to the Caucciano back to the clubs that arrived in poor form.
One of the latest examples came last March when Atalanta striker Mateo Letegui was forced to withdraw from the team due to muscle problems.
“I sent Letegui back home because he won’t recover, but I hope he’ll come back for the next game in Atalanta,” Spalletti said.
“The exact problem is not well defined, but he has (muscle) fatigue. And, as we always did, we decided to release him.”
Gatuso said he spoke to Sparetti: “I have great respect for him,” the new Italian boss said.
“He’s a true football spirit and innovates every year.”
