The president of FIGC Gabriele Gravina claims that Gennaro Gattuso’s “more than mere enthusiasm” as coach of the Italian national team, confirming that Simone Perrotta and Gianluca Zambrotta will join Cesare Prandelli in the “Independence” project to develop young players.

Gravina spoke to the media on Thursday before Gatuso announced a press conference as Italian coach.

“Gatuso is the new head coach of the national team. He has the qualities, determination and most importantly, determination to achieve something great for Azzuri and our country,” Gravina said through TMW.

“The national team needs him. Gatuso answered Azuri’s call without hesitation, and he answered with the same enthusiasm he showed when he was called as a player.

“I will not make the mistake of reducing his commitment to mere enthusiasm. There is more to it: the great spirit of sacrifice, the incredible professionalism, the extraordinary level of preparation.

“He wanted to send a very clear message right away. He was full of enthusiasm. He immediately told me that everyone was winning on his own,” Gravina continued.

“We win together and go to the World Cup together. I think this is the most beautiful message. Those who love the national team today must take a step forward and try to support this project for the benefit of Azuri, our sport and football.

“It was a shared decision. Genluigi Buffon played an important role. His contribution was important in shaping this project. It was a shared choice looking at both the man and the coach. We are sure of concrete evidence of his abilities: Naples and Milan.

“As a federation, we help him build a united, ambitious and courageous group. He is now facing a complex but engaging job. To regain enthusiasm, identity and results.”

Gravina also confirmed the launch of the project, which was directed by former Italian and Fiorentina director Prandeli.

“We will add a plandeli project with support from two World Cup champions, Simone Perotta and Gianlu Kazan Blotta,” Gravina said.

“They are responsible for developing the potential of players in the best possible way, starting from the youth sector and supporting the youth system and technical field.

“This will be an additional project that operates independently but works alongside Gattuso, which will be very interesting and important for the player’s technical development.

“We are pleased that Leonardo Bonucci will work with Andrea Balzagli with Gatuso. They will play an important role in our project. We will look to those who understand our identity, those who know the true value of the Italian national team.”
