Italian international Federico Chiesa and Ricardo Calafioli were behind the net in the opening round of the 2025-26 Premier League fixtures, with Guglielmo Viario picking up the first clean sheet of the campaign, while Sandro Tonari had to score a draw against the 10 Aston Villas.
Let’s take a look at how the Italian Premier League players have turned out this weekend.
Chiesa and Calafiori ran to the ground

The 2025-26 Premier League campaign began with a visit from champions Liverpool and AFC Bournemouth. Chiesa has been named an alternative to Arne Slot to the offensive lineup of Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo and Hugo Ekitike.
The former Juventus winger appeared as a second-half replacement for Wirtz in the 82nd minute, with a score level of 2-2 at the time. Chiesa then appeared in the right place and slammed the final winner into the house. Sarah then concluded her 94-minute Liverpool evening comeback.
Then on Sunday, Calafiori became the second Italian International to score a mark in the Premier League.

It took him just 13 minutes to find the back of the net from Declan Rice Corner as he lined up as a starter at left back for Arsenal’s trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.
Calafiori lasted 72 minutes and was replaced by England’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, but played a key role in helping Arsenal get a clean sheet.
Vicrious Vicario, Udogie Update

Two Italian internationals on the other side of North London won a 3-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday.
Vicario played for Tottenham’s goal as usual, picking up the first clean sheet of the season.
Teammate Destiny Udogie is still recovering from a knee injury he picked up before responding to his pre-season friendly, but is expected to return to training in the near future. DJed Spence began with a left-back in Italy’s international absence.
How other Italian players reached this weekend

Tonari played 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa, who played the final 30 minutes with 10 men after a red card to Ezri Consa.
Michael Kayode also made a full 90 minutes of play at Brentford’s right back in a final 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest.
Diego Coppola was an unused replacement for Brighton & Hove Albion in a 1-1 draw with Fulham and served as a backup for regular starters Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul Van Hecke.

Fellow Italian centre-back Giovan Nileoni recently completed a permanent transfer to Liverpool, but was not included in the team due to a 4-2 victory at Bournemouth.
Emerson Palmieri is a favorite at West Ham, and recent reports claim that the club is free to leave before the end of the summer transfer period. This meant he was not part of West Ham’s 3-0 defeat against the newly promoted Sunderland.
Luka Koreoshaw was also not part of the match-day team in Burnley’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.
There is still one Italian representative left to play in the opening round of the 2025-26 Premier League fixtures as Wilfried Gunnont and Leeds United host Everton on Eland Road on Monday night and kick off at 20.00 BST.
