Francesco Pio Esposito claims he doesn’t want to leave the Inter despite the rumors of his transfer “during the summer,” revealing that Gianluca Scamacca is one of his role models in the Italian team.
Esposito is one of three Italian debutants convened by Gennaro Gattuso for the World Cup qualifying game against Estonia and Israel at a break in September.
The 20-year-old interstriker held a press conference in Cavalciano on Tuesday, with another debutant Giovan Ni Fabun, a Bologna midfielder.
Pio Esposito spent two previous seasons on loan at Serie B’s Spezia, making Serie debut on Inter on Sunday.
“It’s true, everything’s happening very quickly. I’m pleased with my first call and my debut at Inter. This was the last step in my journey I started at the academy,” he said.
“In football, everything can change very quickly, so balance is essential.”
Esposito needs to be a regular starter, beating the competition between Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Torrum, but that doesn’t necessarily matter.
“I see it every day and see it as an opportunity to improve by learning something from them, as they are one of the best strikers right now,” he said.
Pio Esposito didn’t think about leaving the inter
“From Lautaro, I want to take the hunger and ruthlessness he shows in training every day. Whenever he needs to score, he always does it 100% in a training match. Marcus has his movements, his ability to take on players, and his speed. I’m willing to steal it from him.
“There was talk of transfers about me over the summer, but there was no doubt I would stay at the Inter,” the interstriker continued.
“I didn’t want to go anywhere else because it was a dream come true for me. My coach wanted to protect me too.
Former Italian striker Fabrizio Lavanelli recently compared Pio Esposito and former Juventus star Mario Manskic.
“I read his words and I’m proud that he has seen himself a bit in me,” Esposito said.
“The fighting spirit he said was Mario Manskic. I’m such a striker who tries to use his physicality to injure his enemies.”
Esposito and Fabbian are some of the generation players who have seen Italy take part in the first edition of the World Cup, but what are their memories of Azzurri?
Pio Esposito: Italian iconic Balotelli celebration v. Germany

“It hurt me as a child, but this pushes us to give us more to this shirt,” Esposito said.
“I remember Balotelli’s goal in Italy’s 2-0 victory over Germany in the Euro. My birthday was a few days later, watching the match at a friend’s house. The celebration was iconic.”
Esposito’s brother Sebatiano joined from Cagliari this summer, while Salvatore played for Spagia.
“They tell me to enjoy the experience without rethinking. When we get the opportunity to meet, we try to talk about football as little as possible. This summer, we (he and Sebasciano) met at the Club World Cup, and we exchanged as much as we could.
Finally, a question I didn’t think to work with Gennaro Gattuso and play with the Italian players he admired.
“The player I’ve always liked is certainly a scam,” replied Esposito.
“For me, he is an ideal striker, a perfect progression, and the type of player I have always admired.
“The impact was undoubtedly positive. The coach has shown us all his energy and determination and made sure to do well.”
