EPA12137464 Italian Carlo Ancelotti (L) and President of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) Samir Xaud attended a press conference in which Ancelotti was featured as the new head coach of the men’s Brazilian national soccer team in Brazil, Brazil and Rio de Janeiro, May 26, 2025.
At a presentation press conference as new Brazilian manager, Carlo Ancelotti explained why he didn’t decide to lead Italy instead. “Because they already have a great coach for Luciano Spalletti.”
He became the first Italian to take charge of the legendary Celesao and was featured in the media this evening at a lengthy event in Rio de Janeiro.
Most of the questions were in Portuguese and he answered them all in Spanish, including those placed on him in Italian.

One of the participants asked why the Italian coach chose to start a career in Brazil’s international management team rather than Azurli.
“At this point, they have a coach that my friend Luciano Spalletti and Italy have never called me,” Ancelotti replied.
“They have already had great coaches so they never called me. Brazil is very proud to be here because the history book shows that Brazil is the best national team in the world and has won five World Cup trophies.
Ancelotti on Brazilian and Italian history

Italy is next along four trophies, but doesn’t even qualify for the past two editions that have been overlooked in 2018 and 2022.
“There are times and generations in soccer. These can affect the outcome. I think Italy and Brazil will be competitive again next year,” the coach said.
“Italia worked really hard and Brazil was always at a high level. For example, Brazil was probably the best team in 1982, but Italy won because they needed to combine talent and sacrifice spirit with a spirit of effort to succeed.”
Ancelotti said he had been contacted in the past to take over Italian work, but at the time he said he was still committed to club football and would miss out on his daily training experience.
As he is about to turn 66 next month, his lifestyle has changed and Real Madrid was ready to move on, so the timing of the Brazilian role was lined up perfectly for him in a way that Italy didn’t.
With his first Brazilian team, interdefender Carlos August and Atalanta midfielder Edason, two Serie A players, he’s still looking for his home country.
“They had a very good season, so I called them out. Carlos Augusto is playing the Champions League final in a few days, while Edason has had a great campaign for Atalanta,” explained Ancelotti.
