Milan and Inter have confirmed the signing of the deed of sale for the “acquisition of the metropolitan functions of San Siro, including the Meazza Stadium and its surrounding area”.

Milan have officially purchased the San Siro area, including the Stadio Meazza.

The sale was approved by the Milan City Council in September, and today all the necessary documents for the transaction were officially signed.

“AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano today announce that they have signed a purchase and sale agreement with the City of Milan for the acquisition of the metropolitan features of San Siro, including the Meazza Stadium and the surrounding area,” Inter and Milan said in a joint statement.

“The construction of the new stadium and the urban regeneration project in the San Siro area signify a new chapter for the city of Milan and both clubs. This strategic milestone reflects the shared ambition of AC Milan and Inter, and the funds managed by their respective owners Redbird and Oaktree, to invest in value enhancement that supports the long-term sporting success and sustainable growth of the clubs.”

“Both clubs have commissioned Foster + Partners and Manica to design and develop a new world-class stadium and masterplan the surrounding area. The stadium will meet the highest international standards and is destined to become a new architectural icon for the city of Milan. As part of the project, a new Center of Excellence will also be established, reflecting the sporting and cultural mission that defines the San Siro district and the city as a whole, while redefining the urban space through innovation, sustainability and accessibility.”

“The transaction, completed through Stadio San Siro SpA, was jointly led by international banking institutions Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, and supported by financing provided by both clubs’ banking partners, Banco BPM and BPER Banca.”

Most of the current Stadio Meazza is scheduled to be demolished between 2031 and 2032.

However, construction will start much earlier as the new stadium will not be built in place of the Meazza, but near it.

Construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2027 and be completed by 2031.

This will not only allow Inter and Milan to build a new stadium in the 2031-32 season, but also allow Milan to host the 2032 Euros.
