Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta welcomed Serie A’s decision to postpone the conflict against Rome on Saturday for Pope Francis’ funeral.
Speaking to Sport Mediaset via Fcinternews, Nerazzurri’s chief also previewed tonight’s match against AC Milan.
The Coppa Italia location is on the line as San Siro rivals lock the corner in the second round of the evenly poetic semi-final tie.
Certainly, the goals of Tammy Abraham and Hakan Karhanoglu left more than just bragging rights.
While pursuing historic highs, Milan must win the sixth Cup title to avoid the ignorance of missing out on European football.
Therefore, Simone Inzagi and Sergio Konsenshao are motivated to win tonight as well.
“We’re doing city derbys, so we have to be seen that way,” Beppe Marotta said.
“It’s an important match, and it’s close to the final, but there are a lot of risks.
“Opens are very motivated and they need to match that motivation.”
Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta confirms postponement of the Rome game
Pope Francis’ funeral forced Serie A’s hands.
Additionally, the Italian government has banned all matches from being played on funerals.
Instead, Inter and Rome meet on Sunday.
“First of all, this is an opportunity to renew our pathetic dol for the noble figure of Pope Francis who was close to the world of sports,” Marotta said.
“I had the opportunity to share a conversation with him about the values of sports that reflect the values of society.
“I would like to thank the coaches and players who actively responded to requests to play on Sunday despite making the 8:45pm slot available.
“Even in future matches with Barca, this will allow us to focus more on ground issues.
“The calendar is very busy, and we need to revisit it so that football can once again become a social example, with the harmony of competition.
“It was the right thing to do and I asked for a postponement.
“But as Barcelona’s game approaches, it is perhaps the most important fixture of the year.
“I think all Italian football will benefit from this.
“I think this is the first time a team playing in the Champions League semi-finals will play on Sunday, but we are happy to do it.
“We considered postponing the match further.
“But I realized that the calendar was too busy and there was no room for rescheduling the game.”
Transfer window
Despite the constant talk, Inter was able to return to the main character during the summer transfer period, but Marotta has other plans.
“The team is already competitive and we don’t plan an overhaul.
“We want to create value, we do that with ownership that provides clear guidance.
“But we won’t make any dramatic changes to an already strong team.”
