Napoli got back on track with a brace from David Neres and an opener from Noah Lang, spoiling Raffaele Palladino’s debut on the Atalanta bench.
The Partenopei have been suspended from international duty in a critical situation, with just two draws in their last three competitive matches and injuries to Billy Gilmour, Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa, Kevin De Bruyne, Alex Meret and Romelu Lukaku. Thus, Noah Lang made his second start of the season. Paladino made his debut in his homeland after La Dea sacked coach Ivan Djuric following back-to-back losses in Serie A and a seven-game winless streak. The only notable absence was Giorgio Scalvini.
See how it all unfolded in our live blog.

David Neres hadn’t scored in Serie A for 11 months, but he broke his drought when he ran in to Rasmus Hojlund’s clever flick, evaded Honest Ahanoglu and slotted a precise finish into the bottom corner.
Atalanta tried to fight back, with Charles de Ketelaer and Mario Pašalic heading wide from promising positions.
But Napoli doubled their advantage when Marco Carnesecchi’s missed clearance was forced in by Scott McTominay and Neres slotted home with his left foot into the opposite corner.

Just before half-time, Raul Bellanova hit Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s cross against the post and scored, while Noah Lang also celebrated as he scored his first goal for the club.
Coach Palladino made two changes at half-time, but within 30 seconds Carnesecchi was forced into a tough save from McTominay’s powerful shot at his near post.
De Quetelaele’s snooker shot hit the far post after combining with Lookman, and moments later Atalanta got on the scoresheet with Gianluca Scamacca’s superb volley from 12 yards off Bellanova’s cross.

La Dea woke up after a nightmarish first half when De Quetelaere’s curler scraped the paint off the crossbar, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic hit the spot and the goalkeeper stepped down to finger Scamacca’s shot into the base of the upright.

There was suddenly an Atalanta vibe, with Scamacca nodding in Lazar Samardzic’s cross inches wide, and in the closing stages Carnesecchi using his feet to evade Erzif Elmas’s corner.
Napoli 3-1 Atalanta
Neres 17, 38 (N), Lang 45 (N), Scamacca 53 (A)
