The 2025-26 Serie A Women kicked off this weekend as a team of 12 hopefuls practiced their preparations for the new season.

Again, Juventus and Roma are considered the front runners for the title, and no team outside of these two clubs has won the competition since Fiorentina in 2016-17.

Meanwhile, Como are investing heavily in their women’s team and new additions to the league in Parma, Genoa and Ternana.

This year’s competition increases the number of teams from 10 to 12, promising more action on the growth of the women’s game in Italy.

Serie a Women – Matchday 1 Round-up

The Serie A women’s season began with Inter hosting new girls Ternana, with five different scorers securing a 5-0 win for the Nerazzurri. Martina Tomaselli, Haley Bugeja, Masa Tomasevic, Tessa Wullaert and Nikee Diana Van Dijk all put their names on the scoresheet. Meanwhile, Eleonora Pacioni was sent off for the visitors in the first half, making life infinitely more difficult for the minnows.

After Inter, it was Roma’s turn to get their campaign off to a winning start. The Giallorossi dominated Parma with an impressive 4-0 victory, with goals from Alice Corelli, Rinsola Babajide, Manuele Giugliano and Giulia Dragoni.

Napoli left it until the 76th minute, breaking the deadlock against Fiorentina. Cecil Froet scored the only goal as Partenopei secured all three points.

In the biggest surprise of the weekend, Juventus were held to a 0-0 draw at Sassoro. The champions were dominant, with 68% possession and 18 shots, unable to finish any chances with early hitting from Max Kanzie’s side.

In Sunday’s match, Lazio and Como battled in a tight game. Biancocelesti took three points thanks to goals from Clarisse Le Bihan and Martina Piemonte. Veronica Bernardi scored a late consolation goal for the hosts, but it was too late for the Lakeside team.

In the end, Milan fought back from the goal and defeated Genoa 2-1. Alice Karin Sondergaard gave the hosts the lead in the 45th minute before Evelyn Ije equalized in the 6th minute and Emma Kovisto won the match for the Rossoneri in the final 7 minutes of injury time of the game.

After the first round of fixtures, Inter, Roma, Lazio, Milan and Napoli made up the top five, all winning their first matches. Ternana sit at the bottom and the five goals conceded to Inter concern early indicators that it could be a long season for the women’s Umbrian club in Serie A.
