Simone Inzagi maintained his dream run over Atalanta as Inter Milan walked a 2-0 victory at Geusis Stadium tonight.
Talking to Dazn via Fcinternews, the 48-year-old manager fought back against critics after Inter moved four points across Napoli.
Carlos Augusto and Lautaro Martinez scored beyond halftime to secure Inter’s eighth straight win over Atalanta.
In doing so, the real-life champions delayed Giampierogas Perini’s side by six points in a fierce Serie A title race.
“As a coach, even before the results, I’m very pleased with my performance,” Simone Inzagi said.
“We could have brought character here and shut it down in the first half.
“There was a post, there was a Lautaro unauthorized goal (which could have been effective), and a Fratesi opportunity.
“But we started playing against the Atalanta side in an incredible way, and like us, we barely left the team with 63 goals.
“We haven’t achieved anything yet, but these players deserve praise.
“We had six or seven guys undergoing treatment before we came here, and we can achieve what is important in this spirit.”
Inter Milan Simone Inzagi silences doubt after Atalanta wins
“Obviously we played a great game,” Inzagi added.
“We’ve been reading all sorts of things in the last few weeks, and this team has performed like this in DNA.
“We were at the end of a tired cycle of games and I am very pleased.
“There are only a few games left. We can’t ask these people any more questions.”
He then explained what it takes to beat a team like Atalanta.
“There’s a lot to do with Atalanta: running, determination, aggression.
“And of course you need to play technically well. Everyone did a great job, but every game is different.
“These are always exciting games.
“Tonight was another great battle between two teams that were openly played and deserved to be at the top of the table.”
Simone Inzagi outlines Inter Milan’s ambitions
“I want to play as many games as possible,” Intervos continued.
“And we know how football works. There’s a lot of talk about the possibility that Inter could win anything, but it’s sports.
“We hear all the discussions on TV and it’s great to be able to play so many games.
“And then we had two thrilling games against Feyenoord, and in between we had a match against Monza, which caused us problems.
“After the break, there are Udinese and Coppa Italia. We can’t look back.
“Tonight we won, of course against a great team, and we are happy, we will continue to move in this direction.
However, Inzagi admitted that these malicious stories didn’t bother him.
“Not at all,” he insisted. “I am a coach and I know what sports are.
“We’re not doing the math. We just want to play as many games as possible until the end of the season.”
