Jean Piero Gaspelini returns to “the exaggerated story of Atalanta’s collapse” in recent weeks, and while it is very important to acknowledge his match against Lazio, it suggests his future. “Football is moving forward.”
It will begin on Sunday at Gewys Stadium in Bergamo on 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).
La Dia had been in the Scadette race a few weeks ago, but after consecutive defeats to Inter and Fiorentina, he looks anxiously over his shoulder to maintain his Champions League spot.
“I honestly had a hard time seeing logic in all this story of Atalanta’s ‘collapse’. Just before that we beat Juventus 4-0 and despite the results we played against Inter,” Gaspelini said at a press conference.
“It feels like people are exaggerating these explanations. We’re still third at the table and five of the last eight games will be at home. We’ve never been in such a positive position at this stage of the season.
“I also don’t see it in the stands because I distinguish between the media and the fans. They’re always very enthusiastic and packed with the stadium. The DNA of Atalanta fans is very strict, combative and determined to achieve their goals.
Gasperini’s Expected Expectations and the Future of Atalanta

The Europa League Trophy last season raised expectations, and this week a documentary about the incredible achievements was released in Italy.
“This film was an incredible week when we played two finals, the Europa League and Coppa Italia,” Gasperini continued.
“What emerges from the film is that over these years, we’ve always been a United Group and the atmosphere in the locker room proves that everything is crucial.”
President Antonio Perkassi also said in the premiere that he hopes Gaspelini will remain in Atalanta next season.
“He has shown great appreciation over and over, and our relationship has always been good. But the rest is all football and football is on the way,” the coach replied.
Gasperini also returns to the touchline after halting the ban on defeat to Fiorentina.
“It’s far more important for Adason to come back from the suspension than I do! It’s never fun to watch the game from there.”
There’s a very tough fight in Europe, and if Atalanta doesn’t defeat Lazio tomorrow, it could be even more difficult.
“This is a joy for Serie A and there are so many strong teams that it takes mentality, strength and determination to get results,” Gasperini added.
“Lazio is a great team with a lot of options and they’ve been doing very well in the Europa League. They have some ups and downs, just like what’s natural, but these are two very similar teams. I think it’ll be an interesting match.
“We have eight games left, so we have time to go up and down.”
