Ah, Federico Chiesa.
At one point, Pacy Winger looked to be the future of Italian football, but his career has reached a hurdle since leaving Boyhood Club Fiorentina in 2020 in support of a move to Juventus.
After the first impact on the old lady, the influence of Chiesa in Turin gradually declined in the coming seasons, and now the winger must make important decisions about his future.
Federico Chiesa: Career Quick Look
In 2021, the Italians were excited about his hype. After a strong debut season with Bianconeri, he played a major role in Italy’s victory in the postponed Euro 2020.
However, last summer Juventus decided to say goodbye to Winger, who was sold to Liverpool on the Premier League side, with the 15 million euro regional figures being a substantial loss in the total package of 60 million euros presented by the old lady to Fiorentina in the summer of 2020.
Chiesa made only 14 appearances in all competitions and scored just two goals despite becoming the second Italian to win a Premier League winner’s medal when Arne Slot’s side cruised to domestic success last season.
Fast forward to today, the Italian finally scored their first league goal for the Reds, scoring their third goal in the 4-2 opening game victory against Bournemouth this season.
However, when Liverpool announced the team list for their upcoming Champions League campaign earlier this week, Chiesa was particularly absent.
The former Fiorentina man appears to be at a critical time in his career and is disappointed to be removed from the slots Champions League team.
What’s next for Federico Chiesa?
During the summer, Chiesa was strongly associated with his return to Italy.
Milan reportedly had an interest in returning to Rossoneri this summer and reuniting Winger with manager Massimiliano Alegri, who worked with Chiesa during the duo era with Juventus.

That being said, things seemed to improve for him this season. Chiesa appeared in all three opening trioes of Liverpool’s Premier League match, scoring the club’s first league goal against Bournemouth, as mentioned earlier.
It was quickly closed, as the door of optimism left Ajar delicately for Chiesa. Due to UEFA Squad Registration Rules, clubs participating in the Champions League must name eight homemade players on the team and leave 17 spots open for non-home players.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot faced a headache of choice and chose to include something like signing Giovanni Leoni and Rios Ngumoha of Rising Star instead.
There’s no doubt that January will be scattered again with rumors speculating about Chiesa’s moves.
A return to Italy appears most likely, but players are on a contract that will not expire until 2028, with wages of around 200,000 euros per reported week. So, financially, the Italian club is at a disadvantage and the winger needs to take a pay cut to get him back to his hometown.
For now, the forwards are simply focusing on themselves. The Champions League doesn’t have a few minutes on the horizon, so slots can opt to use Italy more homely. If he can prove himself once more and achieve a strong performance in the Premier League, he can’t rule out Chiesa completely that he can save his Liverpool career as an impact sub off the bench.
The club will have another opportunity to see the team before the team in the form of knockout stages and player sales in January, or injuries, or even dramatic revivals, leading to slots giving Italy another chance.
