New wesley, like rome, reveals career turning points and dybala's

Wesley will be holding his first interview with Rome on July 29, 2025 (as Roma YouTube).

New Roma’s signing Wesley revealed that he had worked as a parking attendant just five years ago, but when he received a text message from Paulo Dybala a few days ago, he began “screams” at home.

Brazilian right back Wesley released his first interview as a Roman player after completing his permanent transfer from Flamengo.

“The welcome from the airport fans is also very happy. They showed great love for me. It was 6am and 100 people were waiting for me. I was happy,” he told the club’s official YouTube channel.

“There are great training facilities in Rome and I can’t wait to play in the stadium. As I say in Brazil, they get crazy. They also remind us of Flamengo people who have a great passion.”

What is his dream this season?

“I dream of winning the Europa League and playing in the Champions League,” replied Wesley.

This is the first time a 21-year-old has left his home country to play in Europe.

“It was extremely difficult to leave Brazil, but coming to Europe has always been a dream. Now I’m in a great club like Rome,” he said.

“I’m so happy, I’m doing this for my family and I’m leaving Brazil to come here again.

“Gasperini is a great coach and can’t wait to talk to him. He’s well-versed in my playing style. I’m an offensive player and I have to work on many aspects. I play widely on the 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 system.

Gasperini was appointed several weeks ago in Atalanta nine years later, and won the Europa League in 2023-24.

Wesley continued his interview by explaining how he became a professional soccer player.

Wesley thought football was “not” to his fate

“I started playing football quite late in 2017 when I started playing consistently in the youth sector. I was eight years old. I didn’t fit four or five exams with Figurence and Tabarao, but it was eventually approved by Figurence,” he said.

“However, the club was in good financial situation so they were told to let the club know if they found a better option. So I spoke with Tabarao and joined in 2019, but Covid arrived.

“I started working in a restaurant with my mother and sister, where she was a chef, and I worked as a parking accompanying person. When I started playing seriously, Covid arrived and thought football wasn’t destined.

“My sister wanted to play football so I kept sending motivational messages on Instagram. At the end of 2020, I decided to go back after a year’s break. In 2021 I called Tubarao and asked if I could play five games along with five games.

“From that moment on, I was contacted to do more trials. Flamengo called me in 2021.”

Wesley chose No. 43 on the Studio Olympico.

“This is a number that belongs to great players like Dejan Petkovic, but when I was on the first team in the youth sector, you don’t pick the numbers,” Wesley explained.

“Flamengo gives you one after the draw. My first number was 46 and the next season was 43. From that moment on, I started developing, so I kept it and tattooed it. For me, it’s a lucky number.”

Romaster Dybala texted Wesley before officially joining Rome on Monday.

“He asked how I was doing and he said he was waiting for me. He told me to text him if I needed anything,” Wesley revealed.

“I jumped when I read the text and started screaming at home, and I was telling my wife.

Wesley hopes to continue to acquire Brazilian right-back tradition with the Studio Olympico.

“It’s an honor to wear this jersey,” he concluded.

“Cafu and Maicon are huge inspiration for me. I hope that one day they will inspire other players.”
