Early goals from Matthias Soule and Lorenzo Pellegrini sealed a comfortable Europa League victory for Roma, who came close to taking on Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox.
The Giallorossi were under pressure after back-to-back home defeats to Lille and Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League and losing two of their last four Serie A games. Paulo Dybala, Leon Bailey, Evan Ferguson and Angelino were injured, while Tommaso Baldanzi was ruled out. Rangers were starting to turn things around under new manager Danny Rolle, but lost all three of their Europa League games. Ravi Matondo, Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dwelle missed out.
See how it all unfolded in our live blog.

The Giallorossi took the lead from the start, with Lorenzo Pellegrini’s corner kick deflected by Brian Cristante and Matthias Sule at the back post. This was his first goal in a UEFA competition.

Youssef Cermiti took full advantage of a mistake from Kostas Tsimikas’ long ball and then swooped down at the right moment to smash an angled drive into the face of goal.
At the near post, Jack Butland had his gloves stung by Sule’s snap shot, but Roma doubled their advantage when Artem Dovvik controlled and Pellegrini scored his first goal from 14 yards with the inside of his right boot into the near bottom corner.

Rangers’ first threat came in the 39th minute when Gassama sent Mario Hermoso to the ground, his rolled cross was deflected with the fingertips of Miles Svillar and Gianluca Mancini decisively blocked Moore.
Once again, Dobvik’s lay-off saw Sule go inches wide on the counter, and after the restart, Hermoso charged at Celmiti’s shot and Raskin fired the rebound wide.
In the 70th minute, Roma couldn’t manage to make it 3-0 due to some chaotic moves. A terrible volley from Tsimikas led to a cross that turned into a fortuitous assist and Zeki Celik, almost on the line, curled the ball under the bar.

Rangers 0-2 Roma
Thule 13 (Ro), Pellegrini 37 (Ro)
