Manager Gian Piero Gasperini said Roma put in a “convincing performance” to beat Rangers in Glasgow and saw their confidence and fitness levels grow across the board.
The Giallorossi needed to get back on track after two consecutive losses to Lille and Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League, as well as tough defeats to Inter and Milan in Serie A.
They looked comfortable throughout against Ibrox, opening up an early 2-0 lead with Matthias Sule heading home from a corner and Lorenzo Pellegrini assisting Artem Dovvik.
Gasperini was impressed by the Rome show

“I think it was a convincing performance. A team like Rangers is very physical and has a lot of spirit, so it’s never easy to win in this atmosphere,” Gasperini told Sky Sports Italia.
“We went well in the first half, but we had some problems at the start of the second half, but that can happen in a game like this.”
Roma had struggled to score goals so far this season, and coach Gasperini was dissatisfied with Dobvik’s movements, but on this day he gave an assist to Pellegrini.
“Communication is the basis of attack, not an individual approach. And the goal was a combination of all three. If we can be confident in scoring these kinds of goals, we will definitely get more,” the coach replied.

“Obviously his fitness level has improved, he was involved in the second goal and he held the ball well. He came close to finishing a few times. If a striker gets into that position, sooner or later he will score.”
“Undoubtedly, his condition is much better than at the beginning of the season. We are without three players in the attack at the same time, which inevitably affects the rotation and fatigue of the squad, but we go into the break on the right foot for international duty and hope to get back into shape after that.”
With Paulo Dybala, Evan Ferguson, Leon Bailey and Angelino out injured and Tommaso Baldanzi ineligible for the Europa League, the manager’s options were limited tonight.

Do you feel Gasperini still needs to improve?
“Our performances have certainly improved, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into results. After all, we got results at the beginning of the season with a not very convincing performance.
“I believe that it is the level of performance that gives you confidence. So even when we lost to Inter and Milan, it was a good result for us. Maybe even better than the early wins. We are playing better now and that also allows us to create more scoring chances.”
Roma currently sit 18th in the Europa League with six points from four games and a goal difference of +1.
Curiously, they won both away matches in this tournament and lost both at the Stadio Olimpico.
